Layout FAQ/HELP
Please read this FAQ before coming to any of the two maintainers for help.

Getting Started
Layout PersonalizationGeneral

Can you help me with my layout?
Yes, I won't shut you down or tell you to come here for help. You can always ask me if you don't feel like reading the FAQ page. Or maybe it's just more helpful to you.

How do I put the layout on my journal?
In the post of the layout, there are ALWAYS instructions telling you how to put the layout in your journal. Whether it's s2 Flexible Squares, s2 Smooth Sailing or whatever it may be, it's always there. And if it still confuses you, then you can always come to either fuckkcliche (AKA your estiloamor maintainers) for help.

Can I edit the layout myself?
Yes, that'd be simply stupid if you couldn't. Just make sure you credit estiloamor whether it's in your profile, on a layout, or in a post.

Can I add a header image to my layout? If so, how?
Yes you may, it varies for the layout type though (e.g. s2 Flexible Squares, s2 Smooth Sailing) Currently, the only two styles we offer here as of now at estiloamor are s2 Flexible Squares, and s2 Smooth Sailing. Since the CSS for the two layout types are different, it's required that if adding a header image to either one of the two, that they are done differently. This is where you'll find the header image in most cases.

Adding a header image to an s2 Flexible Squares layout:
Find this code in your CSS code:

.headerimage {

}

then replace it with its attributes by yourself:
.headerimage {

/* for formatting header image */
width: WIDTH OF HEADER IMAGEpx;
height:
HEIGHT OF HEADER IMAGEpx;
background-image:url(
URL OF HEADER IMAGE);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
margin-right: auto;
margin-left: auto;
background-color: ;
}

Adding a header image to an s2 Smooth Sailing layout:
Find this code in your CSS code:

.pageblock {background: url(XXX) top center
no-repeat;
padding-top: XXXpx;
width: XXXpx; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;
}

then replace it with its attributes by yourself:

 .pageblock {background: url(URL OF HEADER IMAGE) top center
no-repeat;padding-top: HEIGHT OF HEADER IMAGEpx;
width: WIDTH OF HEADER IMAGEpx; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;}

Do I need to put both my drop-downs as "No" under the "Custom CSS" page?

Yes, if you don't then your layout won't show up right, the colors will show up different and the entire layout will look screwed up. Both of your drop-downs need to be set as "No", all the time and everytime.

 Do your guys' layouts work with both Firefox and IE?

Yes they do. We get this question a lot. And by the number of voters in our Layout Poll #1, you can see that most of our members use Mozilla Firefox, and it is actually recommended for you to use vs. IE... Even if there is no difference if your using our layouts in IE, it's always better just in-case.

 I own a layout community, can I use any of your layouts and edit them as a base code?

It depends... If you're using a layout from this community to put on the actual layout of the community then you may (UNLESS  YOU  CREDIT estiloamor ) But in terms of using any of the layouts in this community and editing the CSS as a base code to give to members of your own community, then unfortunately no.

Do I absolutely need to comment you if I take any of your graphics/overrides?

Well, sadly no. Ahha, but it's really fun to see where they end up ;D And just to see if you guys are crediting, it's just easier for us. Ask any community maintainer, we get a kick out of it! It's a feel good moment for all the hard work we put into our designs.

  How can I become a graphic maker for this community?

We're not fully sure on this, but we're debating on whether to allow skilled graphic makers (icons, brushes, moodsets, etc.) to post his/her work. If we do allow this, you'll have to reply to a specific post that will be posted on the community, and then accepted by either fuckkcliche  or morirvivo . Please do not ask any of the two maintainers permission of this enrollment unless given the opportunity.

Copyright Infringement?

All images that are chosen to be edited, altered, and/or displayed in this community (icons, headers, etc.) are copyright to their original owners. No transgression towards infringement is intended by any means.

I want my lj to have the tiny characters of current mood/music/location. How do I do it? Could you give me a code so i could paste it on my stylesheet?
morirvivomorirvivo on April 20th, 2009 11:06 pm (UTC)
Tiny characters with text? Or just straight up tiny characters?

Hello. I have been digging through FAQ's looking for the CSS to put the icons in my layout on the right of the entries, instead of the left? And then have the title/date moved to the left. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me out? Thank you in advance!

If this doesn't help then i'd be glad to help you myself<3 Just come back to this post if it confuses you at all.

This is probably going to be a stupid question, but I want to ask it for future reference. You state that "You may not manipulate any of our designs without maintainers' permission." I was wondering, does this include things like changing colours, taking out a lowercase override code, etc.? I always thought it did here, but then the rest of these FAQs make me think that we are allowed to edit as long as we still credit. So, what's the real deal? Haha. I don't want to do anything that goes against the rules.
Amandafuckkcliche on June 7th, 2009 08:01 am (UTC)
That's a good question actually lol. Not stupid at all. You're totally right about that, I can see where you're coming from. I guess I'll have to re-word that statement a little bit... but anyways yes you're allowed to change up the layout all you want. If someone wants to tweak something they don't like, it's not like I'm gonna force them to live with it lolol

Thanks for asking this though! :]

Um, I use your layout for my other journal. But there is a gap between the header image and the header, like this. Then I tried to put margin-bottom: 0px on the header image section, but it's still like that. How can I get rid of this?

Thank you before. :D
morirvivomorirvivo on June 17th, 2009 01:18 pm (UTC)
Damn D; fuckkcliche accidently added that to the code. I still need to fix it but here's how you do it.

Find this code:
#content
{ padding: 12px 0px 12px 0px;
width: 700px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
background-color: transparent;
padding: 8px;
margin-bottom:0px;
margin-top:50px;

}

the very last line of the code that says "margin-top:50px;" just erase it. And you're good to go!

Hope this helps hunn<3

i'm sorry if this question has nothing to do with layouts :\
but how do you do the scrollable box for the css codes?
morirvivomorirvivo on June 24th, 2009 06:55 am (UTC)
it's a text area tag (:

looks like this:

get rid of the "." in the end textarea tag though (before the slash), I had to put it there so LJ wouldn't make the HTML actually work

ah, sorry i commented on the wrong place as it seems ^^;;

i am using, or trying to use the layout called Superior Ink by you, but i'm having a real hard time editing the style sheet. I want to add a header to it, and i added the codes i found here but still nothing. i use Mozilla Firefox.

the thing is, as long as i dont try to change anything ti works perfectly, but once i paste the codes for the header i get this http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml?group=customcss

its just a black page, and nothing more.. do you have any idea why would this be happening?

thanks and sorry for bothering you m(_ _)m
morirvivomorirvivo on July 2nd, 2009 02:59 am (UTC)
Ahhh D; that happens alllll the time when I'm trying to make a new layout, allallall the time.

I have a guess that it's either there's too much CSS for the server to load or a code is screwed up in the coding. So whenever I code the layouts I do it by "baby steps" and it takes a really long time, but seems to work for some stupid reason.

I suggest you copy and paste each ".headerimage" code in by each line individually, then save it. It'll take about 2 minutes but it's worth it<3

Hello. :) I have, uhm, a...pretty big request. I really love the Straight Edge layout, but I like sidebars/topbars and was wondering if you could possibly edit the code a bit to fit one in? I know that when making it, you probably didn't think it would fit, but I think a topbar would look all right. If it's not too much trouble, will you please do a sidebar/topbar version of the layout for me? :)

I completely understand if you don't want to. Thank you!!!

Hi!

am currently using the layout --> s2 Flexible Squares; Simple Collection and i absolutely lovvvve it. however, i was wondering how can i tweak the layout in order for the main content of my post not to get wrapped around my icon/userpic?

been trying to figure it out with my non-existent CSS knowledge, but to no avail. would appreciate it very much. (:
morirvivomorirvivo on September 17th, 2009 04:01 am (UTC)
Not a problem! Sorry about the late reply :/

Find this in your CSS code:

.entry {
background: #fff;
padding: 10px 0 15px 15px;
text-align: justify;

}

then, replace it with this:

.entry {
background: #fff;
padding: 10px 0 15px 15px;
text-align: justify;
margin-left:150px;

}

After you've done that, then find this:

.subcontent {
position: relative;
padding: 0px;
background-image:url();
border-bottom: #eee 2px solid;
border-right: #eee 1px solid;
}

And replace it with this:

.subcontent {
position: relative;
padding: 0px;
background:white;
border-bottom: #eee 2px solid;
border-right: #eee 1px solid;
}

If you're still confused or it didn't work then feel free to ask again (:
xoxo

How do you make a header that will go with every background? I use Photoshop CS3.
morirvivomorirvivo on September 17th, 2009 04:02 am (UTC)
You mean like a transparent header? I think that's what your asking :O Or like header attributes? :/

hey there, i'm using the Straight Edge layout on my lj, and it looks strange in that the top links are jumbled together - as such. i tried doing the code over again and it still didn't work right :\ i thought it might be because i'm using IE (and everyone else seems to use firefox XDDD) but my friend who uses firefox said it still looked the same :\

any ideas what's wrong? it's not that big a deal, just curious. sorry to bother and thanks in advance! :D

Hey! Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I want to add a banner to my layout (the "Placebo" one) and when I search for what you specify here, it's not there. I've read the code over a few times too.

So, I was wondering where I should put the header code and if I need to replace anything. Thank you!

This is just a general HTML question.
Do you know how you can insert additional links into the nav bar?
Instead of just having the recent entries, archive, friends, and user info, could you tell me how you can add more? Like you added 'join' in the front of it.

Thanks!

And keep making those awesome layouts! XD
